Gutter Slope Calculator
Result
The recommended slope for gutters is 1/2" drop for every 10 feet of gutter length.
Gutter Slope Formula
The following formula is used to calculate the Gutter Slope:
GS = 0.5 × L ÷ 10
Where:
- GS is the Gutter Slope (inches of height needed)
- L is the length of the gutter (ft)
To calculate gutter slope, take one half of the length of the gutter in feet, then divide by 10. It's recommended that for every 10 ft of gutter length, there should be 1/2″ of drop.
Example Calculation:
Example: For a gutter length of 50 feet
1. Determine the length of the gutter: 50 ft
2. Calculate using the formula: GS = 0.5 × 50 ÷ 10
3. Result: GS = 2.5 inches of drop needed
Benefits of Proper Gutter Slope
Effective Water Drainage
Properly sloped gutters ensure water flows efficiently to downspouts, preventing standing water and overflow.
Protects Your Foundation
Correct gutter slope prevents water from pooling around your foundation, avoiding costly structural damage.
Reduces Debris Buildup
The right pitch helps wash away leaves and debris, reducing the frequency of gutter cleaning.
